CRASH looks forward to hearing from them, and also from the Conservative, Lib/Dem and Green candidates (and perhaps one or two independents). Swiss Cottage ward is to have three new councillors come the Camden council elections in May, with Cllrs Nayra Bello O'Shanahan and Simon Pearson announcing that they do not intend to stand again, and the (shameful) de-selection of Cllr Leo Cassarani. The elections will be fought with slightly-altered ward boundaries and the name of the ward will change from Swiss Cottage to South Hampstead. The Polling Station where you normally cast your vote may change.
CRASH would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude to all three ward councillors for their support and assistance over the past four years. We wish them well. Throughout last year, Land Securities (Landsec), the owner of the O2 site, kept promising (threatening) to submit its formal planning application for the development before the end of the year. Recently they announced that the application would be submitted in early 2022. We await its arrival.
As reported last year (15/7/21), Essential Living, the developer of the 100 Avenue Road site, submitted an Appeal against Camden's refusal to permit changes to the scheme. The government-appointed Planning Inspector has now refused EL's appeal. The saga continues.
We’re pressing Thames Water to enlarge the drainage locally.
On 17th November we met Thames Water senior managers with our local MP, Tulip Siddiq, and Camden Council representatives. To make our area a higher priority for drainage enlargement and for flood protection support for individual properties, everyone whose property was flooded needs to fill in Thames Water’s “Flooding Questionnaire”. You can do this online here: tinyurl.com/f6k8br7c Or print a copy to fill in by hand by googling: “Thames Water Flooding Questionnaire”. Thames Water will keep anything you tell them confidential. (They will not share it with any other organisations, including insurance companies.) The more people who fill in this form, the more it is likely that Thames Water will invest in tackling flooding locally. Thanks to everyone who filled in our own local survey — we now need you to do fill in Thames Water’s one too. Please help! If you need help with printing the form or filling it in:
South Hampstead Flood Action Group The CRASH annual general meeting was held via Zoom on 12 October. The draft minutes of the meeting can be found here and will be tabled for approval at the 2022 AGM.
A number of items were discussed. Most momentously, CRASH members and the Committee expressed their tremendous gratitude to Frances Radford, who retired from the Committee after many years of dedicated service. Many of you use the excellent ‘Clean Camden’ app to report litter, fly tipping, graffiti, dog mess and so on.
It's now changing its name to the ‘Love Clean Streets’ app. You can downloaded it for free if you have a smart phone on: https://lovecleanstreets.com/reports/home Camden has provided an update on the plans to upgrade the children's play area that were issued in the spring...
Two developments concerning sites which are slightly beyond the boundaries of our conservation area but of great interest to our members.
First, a formal notice has now been issued in respect of an appeal by Essential Living against Camden's refusal to agree to EL's proposed changes to the 100 Avenue Road development. Members will recall that Essential Living is proposing to remove the requirement for the provision of 28 Affordable Rent Units, 8 Intermediate Housing Units and 18 Discounted Market Rent Units, to be replaced by 18 Discounted Market Rent Units. The appeal will now be decided by a government-appointed Planning Inspector. Secondly, Camden has now given final approval to various amendments to the development of the Travis Perkins site on West End Lane. Demolition work has already commenced on site. Worth noting that the 'Affordable Rent' tenants will enjoy all the delights of the traffic-clogged West End Lane, whereas the 'Private Sale' tenants will only have the constant din of the Thameslink trains to disturb them. |
